Why do men ''prefer'' types yet fall in love with the opposite ?

My boyfriend has told me his ''type'' yet i am totally opposite and yet he says he loves me etc. etc. why do people have a ''type'' and not go after them. It makes the one who is not that type feel insecure a bit. i know it is silly but it is out there. I don't have a type...it is stupid but most people do. So they get with someone they profess their love for and glare at their ''type'' which is hurtful. I have said to my boyfriend to go after his ''type'' and leave me alone to get a man who i am his ''type''. he goes bananas and gets real angry at me but he did say it and he does stare at his type? i don't get it.
