So, there's this guy... help?

There's a guy I like at school. I've known him for about 2 years. He's amazing. He's sweet to everyone. He's helpful to everyone. He's a boy genius. All the teachers love him. Al the students love him. Picture the epitome of greatness in a teenage boy, and you've got who I'm talking about. Anyways, he's never had a girlfriend. He has asked one girl out, but sadly she told him no. Me and him used to text all the time. Our convos would last from around 4 in the afternoon until 2 in the morning during the summer and we texted almost every day. Now we don't text as much, but when we do our conversations are still pretty long. This past school year he and a good friend of mine got to know one another better. Now he texts with my friend all the time, and they have a lot in common too. She told me one night that he asked her if they had anything going with one another and she said "possibly." She's a good girl. She's not like your average skank hoe girl from high school. She's smart like him, and she's funny too. So yeah, he likes her. She likes him. And I also like him. The thing is I can't tell him I like him. I'm TOO shy. It's amazing how shy I am when it comes to a guy that I like. And also it would sound pretty bad if I did in fact tell my friend that I like the guy she likes after about 2 months of her telling me how much she likes him. I love this guy. I don't think I'm in love with him anymore... but I care a lot about him, so I may never "get over" him. Any advice on how to handle this?
